Look at all of the other rappers from when Jay-Z started his career. Most of them are nowhere when it comes to music right now. Jay-Z has managed to stay at the top of the game for over 10 years and he is still there.

Look at some other people who were big when he was first starting out:

Wu-Tang haven't been the same since ODB died. I'm not even getting started on anybody from the "Bad Boy Family" because that was practically a joke while it was popular. And Missy practically lost her career when she lost her fat ass. Also, look at some of the biggest names from way back when Will Smith (now an actor), Ice Cube (family movie actor), and Iced T (detective on a cop show...irony at its finest).

The only other artist I can really compare Jay-Z's continuous success to is Nas. And I don't want to hear the "what about eminem?" garbage because he is the Perez Hilton of rap music, nothing but a big talking jackass preying on pop stars to keep his own career out of the grave, since pop stars don't defend themselves often.

Now would I put him above elvis? It's hard to say, I enjoy both of their music for different reasons and don't like some of of their music as well for different reasons. I don't think it really matters who has the top selling CD or is the top selling artist of all time, moreso it's just a record for somebody else to try to beat in the future. If you like Elvis then you like Elvis. If you like Jay-Z, you like Jay-Z. If you like Chopin, then you like Chopin. If you like Muse, then you like Muse. I personally like all of the ones I just mentioned, so I am better then all of you. :D
