@Seece Ment to say Tell me Why You Don't See Rap as Music. And for those saying Rap is nothing but talking shit over a tune I could easily say that Rock and Roll or Punk or Heavy Metal is nothing but Screaming obscenities over an electric gutair.

And we could tell you that it isnt.

Punk, Rock and Metal have melody in their songs, complexity varies in each one. Lyrics are not the same, they depend of the type of song.

Also, rock/Punk/Metal would be SINGING(screaming depending on the genre) over one or 2 electric/acoustic guitar, a bass, a drum set, maybe a piano or violins, anyway you look at it these 3 genres have a lot more complexity that rap does, hell even the pop rock bands that everybody think  are crap like the jonas brothers and tokio hotel are better even if they suck.

Same could be said about Hip Hop/Rap. How can you say that their is no complexity in the Rhymes of Jay-Z? How could you say that it lacks depth, perception, similes, metaphors. Have you heard about Kanye West's 808's and Heartbreaks? Theres no melody in Rap at all? WTF are you listening too? You could argue that the way that each Rapper Flows is hell of a lot harder then singing. Listen to how Jay-Z is able to adjust his flow and his tempo to make smooth beautiful music with Linkin Park on collision course. To say something like Jonas Brothers is better than someone like Jay-Z shows ignorance and possibly bigotry on your side of things and perspective. Open your mind and listen to and take in what some of these artist have to say. Yeah it has it's down point just like every genre of music but don't go writing it off as nothing but talking over a tune and no talent with no complexity whatsoever thats just stupid.

Singing actually requieres a lot of effort, most people suck at it, you have to have good ear to get the pitch, a thing that you cant learn, and vocal training to reach high notes, this and without even talking about depth  in the lyrics or interpretation of the song, thats just the vocal part, not even reffering to the piano, guitar, drum part of the deal. Much harder than talking with rithm.

Also, I like Linkin Park and I think Jay Z ruined their presentations.
