they are not refusing to repair them, they just charge 150$ which include the shipping. they failure rate its small after warranty if up they by law can refuse to repair them for free, they actually do so sometimes.
nintendo made me pay the repair of my L buttom on my DS it was just one week out of warranty.
and you are not forced to pay sony for the repair some electronic or chinese shop would do it for cheaper.
