Also, the low stock at Best Buy leads me to believe the rumors from these past few days were true. The rumors were that these astonishingly low prices on the A2 are just to clear out old stock to make way for the A3. Why else would Sears be putting the A3 on sale for $169 on Black Friday if the A2 is what Toshiba is focusing on?

Toshiba can't have too much stock of teh A2s left. To sell a player with an MSRP of $499 for $1-200 would cost them a lot of money. If the had high quantities of the players in stock, they simply could not afford to sell them at such a low cost. They'd lose too much money, especially since it was rumored that they were subsidizing (selling below cost) their players even at $499.

If the remaining stock for the A2s is really low, this may not have much impact on the war at all. It will just serve to get rid of the stock sooner rather than later.
