The Ghost of RubangB said: They actually taught me evolution at my private Catholic high school. They also taught me that if a baby got hit by a car before it was baptized, it would go to Purgatory instead of Heaven. Very mixed messages. |
I always felt the unbaptised kids got it rough - your parents are a bit lazy, you're a model child and get straight A's at school, help old ladies cross roads, etc.... you get horribly killed, and God's response... Purgatory for you kid! For eternity! Or did they get a second chance? My memory is hazy on that point?

I'd had the impression that people who got sent to Purgatory were only there for a while, until they "paid off" whatever sins landed them there. I.e., it's not eternal like Hell -- you'd eventually get into Heaven. God's jail, if you will.
But then, that's only the impression I got. I may well be mistaken.

I guess in that case it's more like Celestial detention.
