They had a poll in Japan for which characters should be in Brawl. Lyn got some good votes, but some other characters got higher votes. Pretty much the characters we have show a direct coorilation to the poll results, aside from Mega Man and Krystal from Star Fox, who didn't make it. But the reasons they didn't make it were explained (kind of) as Sakurai said he only wanted 1 initial third party character (later bended for Sonic) and there was already too many Star Fox characters, and Fox/Falco/Wolf were already picked before the poll began.
At least Lyn showed up as an Assist Trophy.

Wow really? They should have swapped Wolf for Krystal, in fact, they should have put both of them in there. Mega Man would have also been nice. SSBB needs more female characters though you know?!

I would have replaced Falco for Krystal as he seems to be the one who plays the closest to Fox. But yes, I agree. I was really pitching for Krystal to be in the game. I thought she'd be a real unique addition (and fun to play, either using her Staff or being a totoally unique fighting style like Pit or Zero Suit Samus).
