Well, I don't share the same confidence of others that the blu-ray camp will drop prices. Apple, Sony, other blu-ray players are in companies that don't like to compete on price, and will even cede a market rather than compete on price. At least in my experience, they are generally on the 'high end' of the market.

The problem is...the consumer marketplace is voting for commodity prices (favoring old DVD over the new stuff for that reason).

If Toshiba is able to consistently undercut the cost of blu-ray players, I would even call this war for hd-dvd...despite the lead for blu-ray.

I do hope to see a $99 blu-ray player soon...but I'm doubtful. They'd probably consider a $299 a bargain...and I don't think that resonates with the marketplace.
