Actually IF this is real, this means the control Microsoft has gotten to stop Sony from soaring in sales is impressive.
By paying for a timed exclusive, even thought it's not going to sell, it destroys steam and momentum for the rival HD console, PS3, if the game was a simultaneous multi-platform or a PS3 exclusive. With this, Microsoft secures in a way that the sales of PS3 games (and PS3 hardware) does not soar.
The extra content Sony requires is the contingency, if the game has no extra content, it will not sell a lot. But Sony knows the damage has been done. I will move units, but not as much it was on the PS3 in the first place.
