The sample size is fine. A sample size of 1,000 gives pretty good data on a population of any size, as long as the sample is unbiased.
More problematic is that it was an online survey, which throws a pretty heavy bias into just about any research. NPD has tried to weight things to compensate, but... yeah. Don't go taking this research too seriously.
