XBox and Gamecube were the two most powerful consoles of last generation. PS3 and XBOx 360 are the two most powerful systems of this generation.
The PS2 is similar to the XBox 360 in regards to having more games than its competitors and being released before its competitors.
In regards to sales it is a different story the PS2 is in a league of its own being a cheap DVD player which a lot of people bought last generation and the PS2 is still selling today almost 10 years since it was released in Japan back in May 2000. PS2 has a 80% market share of last generation and no system including the Wii will ever see a market share of 80%. Competition in the market has changed things for the better with a more fairer distribution of market share instead of a monopoly where the game industry goes no where.
