Highway, the Cold War ended but the Soviet Union transitioned from a Communist system to basically a thugocracy and they are biding their time. They never really wanted to get rid of the USSR but they had no choice to with increasing debt and a revolting public.

Now some want socialism/communism here and they don't take the lessons of the past to heart ;-(

Well not going to comment on your idea of USSR history but a little comment on socialism/capitalism.

Personally being a libertarian, it's hard to discuss capitalism and the economy here in America.  It's just something that I don't understand completely and how it'll work.  We look back at failures of socialism and we can find as many equal failures of capitalism.  Maybe both are just being approached incorrectly and need tweaking to get a better system.  But for the most part the systems we do have are not running that well.  Much to learn about global economy, we do.

I mean I'm not going to come out and say I have the answer to the economy and its name is socialism or capitalism or whatever it may be.  Really I don't know what that answer is and obviously no one else does either.  I have noticed that the effects of competition work well in a market and for a consumer.  Capitalism definitely appreciates this but this can be incorporated in countries as well.  Essentially it already is to tell ya the truth.  Not to mention one could argue some of these world corporations work as countries themselves rather than businesses.

Too many things about the economy we don't understand which is why I doubt you know the answer or Michael Moore knows the answer.  I doubt none of the politicians know the answer either because the economists don't know the answer.  Maybe we are simply approaching the economy the wrong way to begin with.  Who knows eh.  Until then I'm content with our form of capitalism with competition being the main driving force.  But some of these global corporations that seek to be monopolies make it difficult and unnecessary government intervention as well.
