Dunno.. i myself dont own a 360 but i was in the same boat as you are now. I was in the market for a 360 and did a thread here on VGChartz where i asked some questions. And i found out that the 149$ (?) Arcade is the same as the 299$ Elite, the only difference is the HDD.
So if you find a game that requires an HDD, its still cheaper to buy an Arcade + MS HDD upgrade than to buy an Elite.
