Edit: What Carl said. @ NYANKS: I don't think the losses will ever be regarded as acceptable, in that this is a strategy Sony are unlikely to ever repeat to the extent that they have with the PS3. They might make another expensive console, but not sell it at a loss. Or they might sell a loss making console, but at a price that is much closer to the competition, and for a much lower per unit loss. |

I guess you can say it sold faster than PS1 in it's first 3 years since the Ps1 wasn't available outside of Japan for the first year, but it is clearly behind pace even if sony exceeds their shipment forecast by millions and millions of units.
PS3 is still trailing behind DS, Wii, PS2, PS1, GB, GBA. so...7th place.
