What? According to some people, IX is everything that Final Fantasy is and that's my favorite of the series. So it's not me lacking taste, it's Squaresoft/Square-Enix not knowing what the important essence of the series is, which resulted in disappointing games.

how does X only get a 4 and X-2 get a 7?

X-2 was a rancid piece of @%&*

X has several lame characters who have hardly any use in battle and if the game didn't force you to use them, you would bench them entirely. On the other hand, X-2 doesn't have any useless characters. X forced you to play at least two Blitzball matches, X-2 did not. X had Tidus, X-2 had not. X had regular battles that could go on for minutes, X-2's return to the ATB system made battles dynamic. X had tons of cutscenes and cinematics, X-2 had the very much welcome Start + Kastl function. X took itself very serious which made many scenes ridiculous or embarrassing, X-2 was all in good fun. X felt very repetitive while X-2 could change all the time with the reassignment of jobs of your party members.

Simply put, X-2 was fun, X was not.

Not having this. X didn't need the skip cutscene function because, unlike X-2 it actually had a compelling storyline. In X, you could turn any character into whatever you saw fit using the sphere grid (and switch out to other characters nearly instantly), whereas in X-2, if you needed to change roles in battle you'd have to watch a 30 second transformation scene (or MORE if you werent in the right place in the garment grid). X tackled issues such as the influence of religio for the first time in the series, and intergrated the aeons into the storyline far better than any other FF, whereas X-2 had boobs on show.
