I own a launch PS2.... it works perfectly. It is not a 90% fail rate. It is probably half of the 360's failure rate.

I have 6 fat PS2's with dead lasers that say otherwise.  Are you really such a fanboy you cannot admit how atrocious the PS2 hardware was, that's pretty sad.  The fat PS2 lasers were horrendous for failing and Sony received a class action lawsuit threat I believe for them eventually.  The slim PS2 suffered wide spread overheating issues on the original runs too.  If the figures were available for either console I'm willing to bet your statement would be hopelessly optimistic.
