1) FFVI - IMO, the pinacle of the series, I just feel nothing has matched this game to date.
2) FFIX - The playstations finest RPG, an absolute love letter to everything final fantasy is about.
3) FFIV - The simplest story, but the best gameplay and character development, also one of the most badass soundtracks.
4) FFXII - Highly under-rated. Superb characters, superb voice acting, breathtaking visuals, breathtaking soundtrack, a classical final fantasy story told in an epic way no other final fantasy ever did. This is more of a final fantasy game than any other post ps1 game has ever been, I guess people don't really like what final fantasy is all about, but that's fine to me. The voice acting and english translation of this game makes most western fantasy RPGs look childish.
5) FFV - Arguably the best ever made, THE cookie cutter final fantasy, flawless in every way, but it lacks the charm IV and VI have.
6) FFVIII - This game had one of the best endings, one of the most innovative and intuitve character growth systems and the story was pretty great, it was just a lot more mature and a lot different than what most final fantasy fans were expecting.
7) FFVII - Over rated, but great none the less. I found the story to get very covoluted and It seems to me like its exactly the same as ffvi without the charm and worse characters, but this is just my opinion. Limit breaks are the best part of this game.
8) FFI - This is the one that started it all, but they improved the formula so much after 3.
9) FFII - Better than I alone, but as a series it was not a big enough improvement to merit a higher ranking.
10) FFIII - A huge step downwards, the bottom of the series before the glories climb of IV, V and VI the best the series has ever been.
11) FFX - Technically the best game, but for some reason the cliche story and dull, almost silly characters with way too much drama and not enough personality just makes me not like this game as much as the others. Massive props for Auron and Wakka, two of the best characters the series has ever had.
Spin offs:
1) Dissidia: Final Fantasy -- This is fantastic, everything a spin off should be.
2) Crisis Core: Final Fantasy 7 -- In my eyes, better than the original, should be played in japanee though, the english va/localization is horrible.
3) FFXI - Best MMO ever created, looking forward to XIV.
Strategy Series:
1) Final Fantasy Tactics. Amazing, nuff said.
2) The crystal defenders: This is a surprisingly very well made game(PSN/XBL?)
