Regarding whether wars are good for the economy, as always we should look at the long term effects.
In the short term, a war can generate a lot of jobs, but those jobs are (mostly) used to produce stuff that won't really help the country in the long run (since most of it will have exploded very quickly, or is only useful for the war itself like tanks and war planes).
There are of course some instances where a war has produced assets which have long-term value, for example some technological advancements which are useful for non-war purposes, but on the whole I think it's very questionable that wars are actually good for the economy in the long run.
