How the mighty have fallen.

It's funny, I was one of those lone voices in the 1990s and 2000s who constantly argued that the US was on a crash-and-burn mission of total economic suicide -- gigantic current account deficits, homongous debt overloads, irresponsible deregulation, stupid and evil neocolonial wars (both of which we proceeded to lose), and vast income and wealth polarization by an economy turned into a kleptocracy.

But it brings me no joy to be proved right, just sadness. For all its flaws, I deeply love my country, its gumption, creativity and ability to start over. But oligarchs and kleptocrats have stolen my country's future. Until we end their rule, we're headed for a meltdown which will make Russia's 1991-1998 collapse look like a tea party.
