Regardless, this does demonstrate my point in that no president in recent history has been a fiscal conservative because that would require the government to reduce spending at a rate greater than taxes are reduced; which would result in smaller government, lower taxes and a balanced budget.

 

Clinton did run a balanced budget, he didn't use the surplus to reduce debt tho.

But the point stands, the whole "republicans are fiscal conservative while democrats run the nation into debt" is a myth that gets votes for the GOP while the dems actually work towards balanced budgets. Until Obama, of course.
