You really want to throw your money away dont you? Yes Alienware does put more engineering into their computers and some higher quality parts, but overall it's a waste of money.

Go with a Dell or HP desktop.

I think alienware could be a great choice if he doesn't want to build his own and has the cash, they are owned by dell i believe, so i would think they would have the same great support but i think the alienwares are geared for gamers. If they have one with a tv tuner card that will act as a dvr, and if not you can add one easiley to a pci slot for around 150 for hd.

They're good, they just cost 50% too much.
