HD DVD player is available at circuit city (and circuitcity online) for $197.99 with 5 free HD DVDs (standard). If you want to wait for blackfriday, Sears has third generation HD-A3 (with 2 free movies in box "300" and "bourne identity") + 5 free hd dvds for $169.99 if you are willing to line up before 5am. If you like "special edition" DVDs, you will love HD DVD for the extra in movie experience and interactivity. If you don't care, you can go for blu-ray's PS3 if you plan for a gaming console. Or best yet, get both. You get the best of both worlds, as in blu-ray for spiderman & pirates, and everything else for HD DVD. :P
