I'd just either ask if your friends plan to get it, or see how it does sales wise for a couple weeks.
Nothing would suck more then getting the game and not being able to play it vs anyone. Sure you'd have the computer, but CPU AI always sucks in card games unless the card games are really simple.
Keep in mind, that not only do you have to buy the game but you have to buy the booster packs for new cards as well.
