My comments on many of your reactions.
1. NES saved gaming and SNES created the standard base for controllers. So one of these should be #1 if not 1 and 2.
2. PS drastically increased the gaming populations and standardized Nintendo's controller ideas into an essentially modern controller with dual analog sticks with rumble. Hell even the classic controller is the same (w/o rumble). So it deserves 2nd place or 3rd at worst.
3. PS2 and PS3 didn't do anything to revolutionary or new beyond DVD or Bluray playback which really isn't helping gaming at all. So, beyond being some of your personal fav consoles due to particular game lineup and fanboy love its doesn't make sense to argue their positions up at all.
4. XBOX invented console online and 360 nearly perfected it. Live is the bar the others should try to achieve as it exists in the 360 and this is a big feature for continuing console gaming evolution. Kinda like the wheel here folks. (By invented I'm not saying first, just made it successful, like PS did for analog sticks even though N64 had it and rumble first)
5. I'm dissapointed Wii is not in top 5. Motion controls are the next huge leap in gaming and it should definitely outrank anything Atari 2600 did and that Wii is doing now what PS did years ago, massive expansion of the gaming community.
These are my notes.
My top 10 would have been and reasoning:
1. NES - Saved gaming
2. SNES - Defined base controller
3. PS - Expanded gaming, finalized SNES design w/ dual analog and best rumble
4. 360 - Live and overall community ideas nearly perfected, voip, movies, shows, etc
5. Wii - Motion
6. Genesis - Disc based gaming initiation
7. 2600 - grandfather of gaming
8. XBOX - initiation of real console online/community, real storage vs cards
9. PS2 - video playback and other enhanced media support
10. Dreamcast - initial online
My basis isn't on game selection as you can tell, but on how I rank overall benefits to console gaming in general.
