These consoles today are messed up... My genesis, 32x and sega CD dont miss a beat but I had problems with PS1, PS2 and Xbox360. Pretty much everything i owned that was CD based other than Saturn and Dreamcast.

Amen!  I am on my 2nd 60 GB PS3, and my PS2 just died a couple weeks ago.  In the mean time my 2600, NES, SNES, Genesis and N64 work fine after all these years.  My GC and Wii work fine too, but that doesn't support my "optical drives suck" stance.

I hope games start using flash memory - I would pay the extra price for it.  So would a lot of people who have lost as many optical devices as I have.
