It's kind of sad that people are uninformed enough to still be using IE...

Too true!

Sadly though, one thing I have learned in my efforts to convert friends and family to safer computing habits is that people are wierd about their browsers. Sometimes they get all offended or act like its going to be some big hassle like buying a new car. Then even if you explain how simple and easy it is they have already built it up in their mind to be this big thing...and by then its too late...

Now, when I build computers for people I just install firefox and add the basic plugins like adblock etc.. and remove the IE icon from the desktop and start menu. I haven't had any comlaints, but occasionally I get asked where IE is and I just show them the firefox icon which usually prompts an "Oh IE changed their look!"...and its always funny when a week later they are explaining how much better this new version of IE is =P

Keep it up! What I do is go to other people's computers at school, tell them I can get around all the network censorship, install FF but change the skin, title and icon (through add-ons) to IE6 (my school refuses to even use IE7) and then they can use MySpace, YouTube or whatever else without blocks without the teacher knowing. Oh, and they suddenly gain a search bar and tabs, which they just take as IE6 hidden features.
