I had issues when I installed firmware 2.80 all my games where darker on screen but firmware 3.0 just fix it today so I suggest you to call sony if they told you you must pay to get it fix or wathever you should ewait untill the next firmware it might fix it, I think the firmware wasn't installed right on your ps3 and sadly you can't reinstall it or even reinstall the previous one, you can also try with another hdmi cable
