Hmm, I just went looked back at the sales. Kingdom Hearts II did terrible in comparison to the first.

 

Do we know what happened? I mean it barely crossed two million and did under 500k in Others. The first one sold 3.5 million in America alone!

I would like to put forth that the first one (besides being the better game) was more noteworthy for its originality and got more positive word of mouth.

Hmm, looking at critics and my opinion they're pretty even games. I think the first had a better story and worlds, but the second had better gameplay.

And yet the first sold a lot better. That's either due to novelty or just getting better word-of-mouth. One or the other.
