I don't see why it isn't possible. Pc games of today run at resolutions above 1080p as the standard for high end cards. By the time I expect the next generation consoles to be released, todays high end should be just in the right area with what would be put into them. This is all assuming next generation consoles get over thier memory limits. Even then though, it might not happen in most games because of 1080p adoption on the TV front.
