Personally, I think your wish to drop the argument is less due to misunderstanding on my part than to inability to effectively refute my points on yours, but in any case there's certainly no rule against backing away without conceding.
I might get more than just multiplayer, but frankly if I don't use any other benefit of Gold then yes that is all I'm paying for. I'll admit that part of my refusal to pay for online play is that I don't do it as much as some people do, so I would be paying comparatively more per hour of play.
