In Japan, only a handful of games are given the "Shin Megami Tensei" tag. Here in North America, Atlus USA decided to give every single related game the tag to increase brand recognition. In Japan, Persona, Devil Survivor, DDS, and Devil Summoner are not Shin Megami Tensei.
They would never scrap the name. They are a Japan-centric company, and even though Persona might be more popular here, SMT will never die there.
Honestly, what you`re saying has a 0% chance of happening.

Well, with SJ, they're going back to the roots of SMT I&II. Nocturne changed things a lot, and was still very well received. I can see SMT IV being much more like Nocturne, and for that to happen, it would most likely wouldn't be a DS game.
That being said, if they decided to go old-school from now on, then, DS will definitely get them all.
