ms already had an offer out at $299 whereas sony did not.
the type of person who was going to get an xbox would continue getting the xbox.
the type of person who was going to get a ps3 but then decided that it was too expensive and ended up getting the xbox will now stick with the ps3 purchase.
top that off with anyone one who was considering getting an xbox now has another option at the same price.
greater impact to sales for sony... by leagues.
