It's funny we had that argument last year in a gamestop, this guy was buying Some super hero game when I was walking into the store, they were having a heated debate..
As I walk in the guy behind the counter askes: hey, is Batman a Superhero yes or no..
I say : Yes
The guy behind the counter throws his hands/arms into the air "what the... come on people, he has no SUPER Powers"
I simply said, "He has his brains, and the power of dedication, more then many superheros, and he was one of the first superheros"
He still went on and on about how you need SUPER Powers to be a super hero, and then tried to pull the SUPERMAN card..
I said: Batman would kill Superman
he asks: wtf.. how?
I said: he keeps a nice chunk of kryptonite in his lead coated belt....
he shut up..

Once again, that guy was ignorant of comics. He should read the ones where Superman actually fights Batman. Learn what the hell he's talking about. Guess who always wins.
I mean, if Lex Luther could fight Superman and be a worthy adversary....how would he beat Batman...or the Joker?
The Joker posions children for fun. To death.
Batman isn't a physical superhero. If someone is faster than him...then he doesn't race them. He still beats them. All superheros have a weakness, except him.
There is no Superhero that would beat batman in a fight, according to true Batman methos. In the comics(not movies) he's like Sherlock Holmes. He's THE master detective. He finds your weakness, and exploits it, usually in an evil and unfair way....but he's good. Because he's good, he never loses. It's impossible for someone to write Batman, as losing a fight. Not accidently. Of course, no superhero is invincible. However, batman is as close as they come. He's an ideal. His "not having superpowers" is the best part about him.

While I agree with pretty much everything you said, I have to say the only reason Batman beats Superman is because Superman holds back.
If Superman really gave his all, there is no way Batman could beat him one-on-one.
Catching him completely by surprise, maybe.

Actually, Superman is weak against Kryptonite, and another major weakness he has is that he is truely good, and will sacrafice his own life to save the lives of innocents.
Batman comic spoiler:
Batman could and does easily defeat Superman in each encounter with him, in The Dark Knight Returns series, and actually does spare Clark's life.
That was when Batman was very old and weak, as well. Not at the top of his game.
Superman has way too vulnerable weaknesses for Batman not to easily exploit them, holding back or not.

I know about Superman's weakness and Batman too is willing to commit that sacrifice.
Im a serious DC fan, so I know all of this.
This whole Batman vs. Superman thing started with Frank Miller's TDK Returns. If you read the comic, Superan goes totally soft on him.
He says things like "Bruce, your heart..." and gives him only weak slaps to stop him.
Green Arrow hits him with an arrow full of kryptonite and only then Batman wins. He doesnt even do it alone.
I know there is also the TDK Strikes Again also by Frank Miller, but frankly, that sucked. So I try to forget that it existed.
Frank Miller, I think, doesnt really like Superman. Thinks hes too soft or something. He saw Batman as the personification of all those things you talked about (self-determination, intelligence, etc.)and wrote TDK Returns with that notion in mind.
Batman wasnt as dark and violent in those days before TDK Returns. FM changed it and his book was so sucessful (especially because of the SvB fight) that it became the new standard. So now everytime they make them fight, he always wins.
But, seriously, if Batman wasnt his friend, Superman could beat him easily. Kriptonyte or not.
All I need to prove my point if for DC to try to change that mythos and writing a story that shows that.
But I think Dc is afraid of Frank Milller.
