why it always has to be like this playstation brand vs xbox brand

I never quite got why everyone made it look like the war was between Playstation and Xbox last gen, if anything, the war was between Xbox and GameCube, with Sony being too far out ahead to really matter in the conflict. Instead it looked like PlayStation and Xbox were closely competing, and Nintendo was too far behind.

 

This generation it's a little more obvious, but the idea that Sony and Microsoft were dueling for control or anything last gen is laughable.
