Microsoft has announced that the Xbox 360's Facebook and Twitter integration will only be available to Gold members.

Hidden in the depths of Microsoft's announcement of an Xbox 360 Elite price cut, we've found some news that we weren't quite expecting.

Although the company revealed that access to Last-fm would require a Gold Xbox LIVE membership, there was no mention of the free Facebook and Twitter services.

However, it now looks like you'll also have to be a paying subscriber for these two social networking websites:

"Xbox LIVE Gold Membership will be required for Twitter and Facebook when they are available, and is required for Netflix. Games, media content and Netflix membership are sold separately; a hard drive is required for storage," Microsoft's press release reads.

The social networking additions will arrive this autumn, and though their integration into the Xbox 360's dashboard is impressive, should free websites be limited to paying subscribers?

They had to have these features specifically designed with the Xbox 360 in mind. BTW why on earth would anyone have thought this would be for anyone but Gold members. People always griped about not having enough reason to pay for LIVE Netflix/Skynet, Xbox Live Primetime Games, Unlimited Online play, cross game chat/parties, Try out game Demos before everyone else, Facebook/Twitter/last.fm specific features for X360. Sure as you mentioned Facebook adn stuff may be free to use on a computer but they made these versions with the X360 in mind and provide Gold members with more freedom and luxury. If you use any of those applications already its nothing more than a win for you. The convenience of beign able to have your MSN Messenger, Facebook account, Twitter account and last.fm music account all connected to your X360 if you wish to is awesome! I for one never, not even once figured this would be available to Silver members. 2/3 of the Xbox Live Community are Gold anyways so this won't affect most people. With 31 million X360 out there 18 million X360 users are Xbox Live Gold members. Take into account thats also nearly how many PS3's have been sold worldwide.

How our favorite systems are just like humans and sometimes have issues finding their special someone...

Xbox 360 wants to KinectPS3 wants to Move!  Why are both systems having such relationship problems?  The reason is they both become so infactuated with desire while watching the Wii as it waggles on by. They simply want what they can't have.
