People seem to forget... EEDAR doesn't think the price drop with give them a significant increase from last year... if they can match last years Christmas numbers they'll still crush Sony this Christmas. It was the Arcade that won Microsoft the crushing victory over Sony last year. Remember 200 < 300 and for a hundred you can get four pretty good game from Walmart and that's not including their Christmas Pack-In. Sony will do much better this year (how could they not?), but I don't think a 300 dollar console can compete with a 200 dollar console durring the holiday months... we are still in a recession and every dollar counts especially if you have multipul children or a house payment or anything that is keeping your wallet in sharp check

You are insane. In last gen Nintendo tried to sell the Gamecube for $99 but it just couldnt compete with $199 PS2.

For some families the limit is $200, but for some families it's $300 or $400. U cant generalize so many people as poor and scared of a Crysis.

And this $300 console will give you a 120GB HDD + Blu-ray player + Free Online + Slim design + more reliable hardware+ arguably better/broader gaming lineup + stronger brand power + WiFi - all of which the $200 console doesn't have. (at least this is what the fans will argue)

It's almost like you're saying that people only buy cheap stuff and that the most successful business model in electronics is to just be lowest price. It's simplyfying things 2 much.

The Gamecube was last gen fighting the juggernaut that was the PS2. The 360 and the PS3 arent the same. The more expensive and less successful console on the store shelves will be the PS3 when someone goes Christmas shopping.  Also by the way we dont know if the PS3 slimm will be more or less reliable than the Xbox 360's being sold this year.

Its libraries that sell systems not a single game.
