There's a reason most developers want to say independent. Which is why it was funny when people thought Itagaki ever wanted to join MS. May have been the funniest things I had ever heard on this forum.
But MS isn't the exception... happens all the time at large corporations in video gaming. EA, Ubisoft, Activision... I'm sure Sony and Ninty as well. But hey it's a double edged sword. Have these expensive consoles to develop for (especially HD systems) and no way to fully produce a game without help from one of these giants. It's hard to be an independent developer these days. So have to work with these publishers anyways.
