I think the difference is nowhere near that small nordlead. Have you tried pinging your router from a laptop using wireless, and compare to the ping times of a computer plugged to the router via Ethernet?

In my case pinging the router from Ethernet results in constant < 1 ms latency, while wireless gives something with tens of ms, or sometimes more than 100 ms (varying widely). That adds a significant delay, easily doubling the ping time to the game server.

That said, I play with the Wii using wireless for convenience, and it's good enough for the games I play online (mostly Mario Kart Wii and GH).
