I feel the same way as you though, fearing D3 will take up just as much of my life as D2 (I play D2 on USEAST right now, actually, for my 5th come-back since the games been out..lol). In terms of a console, I'd wait if you have stuff to play.
Wait to buy a PS3 until GOW3 comes out, because it or Gran Turismo will probably be bundled if those are games you'd like to play. Or just forego the consoles altogether, play what you have, and wait for D3.
If I was in your shoes, I'd feel like either way it doesn't matter because when Diablo 3 comes out, consoles will be on the backburner and rarely ever turned on, unless I have people over. In that sense, I'd say save your money..but you're going to spend it anyway=P
