I have asked a friend of mine about the fan. He says that the design forces so much air out of the unit that the fan is designed to accommodate the heat generated by both the PSU and the rest of the chipset. The fan is almost non existent in sound and moves a shocking amount of air through the back due to an intuitive air flow form through the conduit.
That being said, I still ant to see a thermal image of the system at maximum as well.
