Do you really think the Nationalist government in Scotland would do anything to help Gordon Brown?
This was for them a decision based on the law.
If they had been pushed by Gordon Brown etc to release him they would already be screaming it from the roof tops.
Showing that the UK government was interfering in Scottish decisions would insure that the nationalists would win the next election and Gordon Brown can't afford to let that happen. Especially when it looks like the Conservatives are going to win many more english seats at the next UK election.
