I think Activision may have realized that music games are fading so they are releasing everything they have in the pipeline sooner rather than later to maximize profits.
Of course, releasing everything is hastening the killing of this genre. It is going the way of dance and karaoke games -- from mainstream to niche.

EDIT ADD -- And it does not hurt that this strategy hurts a competitor (Rock Band).
