Perhaps if you pick a car that can't take damage, it limits other players to choosing similarly.

That is a solution, but a very bad one...

They could also restrict everyone to choosing damageable cars for online, but that's also pretty bad (eliminating hundreds of cars from online??).

 

It's not that bad a solution.

If you wanted to race with damage, then you'd choose from a pool of ~200.

If you wanted to race w/o damage, then you'd choose from a pool of ~800.

I'm sure there'll be a better solution though.
