In film and TV, the film makers will ask the building owners whether it is alright to use their buildings in a the film or TV show in the way they want...
This is just a courtesy thing the game industry has to learn as many of these buildings are marketed using significant dollars and the people that own the buildings want to maintain a specific image of the building.
I doubt it had any significant effect on not winning the award though. Resistence is good and scored 87% on average... Nominated and not winning an award seems like a fitting outcome. 90%+ games usually win the awards.
