I think we have to consider the economy in all this, as well. Personally, I think that if it wasn't for the slim/price-cut, all three consoles (and probably the PSP) would have seen worse winter sales than last year, and possibly, for the PS3, the year before.
The combination of the terrible winter that the ps3 had last year, and the slim/price-cut means that it will buck the trend, but I don't expect sales to explode. Less, I think the sales will do really well in gaining marketshare simply because the market expansion will be smaller.
Actual unit sales, though, I don't think will be massive.
