The Ubisoft game isn't that bad. The second game introduced some much needed features (air blocking) but changed things that make the game heaven for a button masher like making substitutions incredibly hard to do, insanely reducing the timing of combos so that sidestepping is worthless and it's near impossible to get out of even the simplest of combos.

If they fixed some of the glaring issues (make the game identical to the first one, just add air blocks and air dash) it'd have the same depth as something like Marvel vs Capcom 2.

Plus, depth is over rated. Deep =/= good by default. As long as a good players can separate themselves from newbs by actual strategy and not just picking characters that are unbalanced and can loop stun moves nonstop, or have movesets that just ridiculous or something else that's result of poor game testing, that's depth enough imo.
