Ok, can I know where did you take the "$20 or even $30 less" numbers from? Because while the "phat" models converted Dolby TrueHD and DTS-HD to an uncompressed PCM stream in software, the slim one can bitstream it directly to your mixer.

There's no improved sound quality, mind you, because the PCM stream contained all the uncompressed digital data, so it's hardly something Sony had to add because they have a tech fever.

It's just that the newer HDMI chips have this feature for free. And seriously, the chip probably costs a couple bucks.

Hes taking the extra $25 it costs for the PS3 slim to "stand up to the Xbox 360", I.E. the console stand!

Its an important feature! Otherwise you'd have to bend down further and risk a costly back injury.
