I think what SONY is really trying to say is" the PS2 genrates a healthy profit for us and we see no reason for us to kill it.. if you want to play PS2.. buy one.. so we will stay in the black!"

And I say, "Screw you, Sony."  After 7 years, my (second) PS2 (fat) just died this weekend (won't read discs).  I am not buying another PS2 at this point.  I have a PS3 60 GB.  All that this means is that if the 60 dies, I have no reason to ever support Sony again.  I'll just sell my library if the PS4 doesn't suit me - and that includes BC.  If it doesn't have BC, I may still buy a PS4 after the slim arrives and the price is down.  Bottom line, I won't be an early adopter for Sony ever again if my 60 dies unless PS4 offers full BC.

Sony systems are the only ones (since the NES) -  that I was an extreme early adopter for, and they are the only ones that have broken.  If I have to take that risk, I am no longer willing to pay full price.  I sure hope my 60 Gig holds out.
