^Some people still enjoy to play the games they used to play and enjoy, others may have not played the game before and want to try it out. I imagine a lot of PS3 owners haven't played the God of War games so if they play # 3 then they might want to play the earlier ones. The same applies to any other game that has prequels on the PS2.
EX: Ratchet and Clank and Metal Gear Solid.
