Those who speak their minds on the internet and such are a very small part of the gaming population 
Look at all the copies Madden on the PS3 sold, or all the copies Lair sold.
Oh, and there was hardly "thousands of internet coverages" about Madden running at a lower FPS on the PS3. It was mostly gaming blogs, and at most a short article on the main gaming site.
