All of those things are what make metroid, metroid though. Plus a few that you haven't mentioned that I shall now.
- One of metroid's main focus is atmosphere. You are suppose to be playing in a world alien to your own. And this ties into exploration. Shadow Complex doesn't seem focused on either atmosphere or exploration.
Another big atmospherical point is being alone. This is somewhat messed with in Corruption, but that is the brink of it. It is just you and the world, and this adds a lot to the atmosphere.
Calling this a "metroid ripoff" is the same as calling Fallout 3 an elderscrolls or oblivion ripoff. They use the same basic core gameplay, but they are nowhere near similar pass that. Btw there are a lot of 2d games that use this format. Castlevania is another example if you want one.
@king_of_the_castle I think he was arguing that the gameplay was similar as well. The conduit is in a total different genre, so I don't see how that qualifies as similar.
